This piece of furniture was created by myself in 2018 for the Higher School Certificate (HSC). The piece is made from European Beech and Jarrah. The long legs that hold the main body of the piece give the impression that the cabinet is being mounted on stilts. The contrasting colours create clear and defined features, particularly the two central doors. The doors open to reveal several compartments which can be used for display or storage. The internal colour scheme is a continuation of the external colour scheme.
The Oculus is a building located in Lower Manhattan, New York. The building is part of a series of structures located all around lower Manhattan. The Building is reminiscent of a closed eye. The most unique feature of the building is the large eyelash-like beams protruding in a spine-like formation. The central line of the building is a clear glass which lets light into the structure. The observer can look out to the sky through this glass, which adds to the building's theme of sight and vision.
This photograph was taken in Paris along the central canal. In the background you can see the old buildings of Paris. In the foreground, there is a shiny new lock that has been placed upon a rusty old pipe. The two items are interlocked with each other, highlighting the contrast between old and new. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the old historic Parisian architecture that still exists in a new and modern society.
